Rebecca Happy of Ottawa BuzzTV spoke with owner operator of The Caribbean Cruiser, Julian Goodluck about how he got to running a mobile food truck in the nation’s capital. Julian came from a much warmer country in the part of the world many of us would much rather be at some point during our cold hard winters.
The Caribbean Cruiser is among the 18 food trucks that got licensed to operate on the streets of Ottawa around 4 years ago. Julian came as a young chef to Ottawa to follow a love interest and go to the Algonquin College culinary arts program almost 20 years ago when he was just 20 and has not looked back.
The name of the truck cruiser came from the idea of cruise ships stopping at the various Caribbean islands discovering all the delicious foods unique to each place. Testing out new tastes in his kitchen lab Julian has been able to develop traditional foods with his own secret spin for those in Ottawa.
When asked about his favourite item on the menu, he suggests that it is up to us but in between the lines, you may think that the Jack Sparrow dish of maui maui is his personal favourite. As he goes over all the menu items however each one seems to be the best choice.
Once you have been there, most come back on a regular basis. Open from mid April until the beginning of November, you can find the truck at the corners of Merivale Rd. And Withrow Ave. Right beside the Jiffy Lube. Be sure to plan a trip or more while you still have the time. Tell him Ottawa BuzzTV sent you.
